Andy is a founder and managing director of Pequod. He has over 30 years experience in both prosecuting and defending maritime claims having worked at Lloyd’s of London, GARD P&I Club and latterly in the subrogation arena. He has considerable experience in dealing with a wide range of challenging issues, including cargo claims, salvage and GA, pollution, crew and stowaway issues, and ports & terminals disputes.

Over the years he has worked closely with a number of global trading groups and has particular knowledge of recovering on commodity claims ranging from bulk foodstuffs, through oil and chemicals, steel and project cargo.

David has worked in the recoveries business since 1986, rising to senior roles at both Willis and a leading London recovery agent, before becoming a co-founder of Pequod. He has experience in all facets of recovery work whether marine, haulage, airfreight or warehousing.

His depth of understanding and knowledge of the application of various international conventions, including the Hague-Visby Rules, Warsaw Convention (and all subsequent protocols) and CMR, makes him a leader in his field.

This expertise has served a number of major underwriting and broking clients in London, Continental Europe, Japan, South East Asia and Africa. His expertise encompasses recoveries on steel, reefer goods, bulk and break bulk foodstuffs and much more.

John Clark

John has over 20 years of experience in the London Insurance Market.

After obtaining a degree in Marine Business with Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth, John gained experience at a Marine Insurance broking firm specialising in cargo and liability defence claims for freight companies carrying under CMR/RHA/UKWA and BIFA terms. John subsequently worked for a leading London recovery agent for approximately 10 years, dealing with complex subrogation recovery issues for the Lloyd’s and IUA (International Underwriters Association) markets prior to joining Pequod Associates in August 2006.

He has extensive knowledge of the various international conventions and domestic legislation in relation to the carriage of goods by air, sea and road, including Hague-Visby Rules, CMR, Warsaw Convention and USCOGSA. John has broad experience of subrogation claims for all types of cargo.

Rob Sweeting

Rob has worked in the marine insurance field since 1989 having started work as a marine claims adjuster for a global claims and recovery agent and then transferred to their casualty department dealing with GA and Salvage claims. In 1992 he moved to GARD P&I, London as a case handler dealing with all aspects of P&I claims worldwide.

After 10 years at GARD P&I, Rob joined a London based recovery agent before then moving to Xchanging Claims Services in 2007 handling recoveries for the Lloyd’s and IUA (International Underwriters Association) markets. He joined the team at Pequod Associates in 2008 and handles all types of recovery claims arising throughout the world, but with a focus on maritime losses, collisions, dock damage, GA and salvage claims.

Rob completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law from Lloyd’s Maritime Academy / London University in 2009.

Juan Martinez

Juan holds a Master’s of Science in International Transportation Management from SUNY Maritime College and has worked in marine insurance since 2007. He joined Pequod Associates USA LLC in April 2012 after gaining experience with global marine claims and settling agency.

He has worked closely with a varied number of global clients and Fortune 100 organizations, including major electronics manufacturers, global commodities traders, international food and beverage companies along with a number of Latin American based clients.

He has a broad knowledge of all types of marine cargo and liability claims procedures in the USA, Canada, Mexico and throughout Central & South America. Juan is fluent in both English and Spanish and has spent a great deal of time as a Spanish liaison when dealing with Underwriters, Assureds, and Local correspondents in Central and South America, with projects including translations, full claims management, process integration and file auditing.

He is also responsible for the day-to-day handling of recovery files and has been involved in Pequod USA’s business development.

Andrius joined Pequod in 2012 after graduating with a first class degree in BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth, and successfully completing his second bachelor degree in English law at the College of Law, Moorgate (London).

His principal area of practice is cargo claims relating to a carriage of goods by sea, road and air focusing on international conventions and subsequent protocols. He has experience working in surveying, logistics and chartering companies based in Lithuania and also significant experience in various charter party disputes, having worked in shipping law firms, both in the UK and Malta.

Karl James

Karl started work at Willis Faber & Dumas Ltd in 1977 handling cargo claims. In 1979 Karl moved on to recoveries. He spent 22 years at Willis before being transferred with the recovery business to the local law firm of Birketts Solicitors. 2003 saw the business and Karl transferring to a London recovery agent where Karl remained until 2006 before moving to the recovery department at Xchanging.

In 2011 Karl made his final move to Pequod Associates Ltd bringing over thirty years’ experience in the recovery market with him.

Dealing in the majority of areas of recovery work involving the carriage of goods by air, sea and road over the years for clients from all corners of the Globe Karl has amassed knowledge on the governing international conventions including Hague/Hague-Visby, Hamburg Rules, US COGSA, CMR, Warsaw Convention and amendments, and CIM as well as on domestic legislation/conditions covering internal transportation.

Elaine Page

Elaine began her career in Marine Insurance when she first joined Willis in 1996. She later joined the Recoveries Team at ‘Claims and Recovery Services Ltd’ and soon began managing an extensive caseload of recovery claims on behalf of a number of well known Global cargo insurers.
Elaine has a particular level of knowledge and experience in the handling of recoveries involving the exports to West Africa, as well as global exports within the pharmaceutical industry, all of which have involved extensive research around loss prevention.

Since joining Pequod in 2012, Elaine has widened her knowledge and experience in the Marine Cargo Industry and now handles a number of large, bespoke client accounts, involving a multitude of air, UK/international road and sea shipment claims.

Liam joined Pequod through the Apprenticeship scheme in March 2018 after successful completing his A levels and Extended Project Qualification.

He has gained knowledge of the London Insurance Market he has experience in cargo marine claims and International Conventions such as CMR, The Hague Rules, The Hague – Visby rules and the US COGSA.

He is a dedicated, organised and methodical individual. He has good interpersonal skills, is an excellent team worker, willing to learn and develop new skills. These attributes have helped him to adjust to his new role within the company as a claims handler at Pequod Associates.

Paula spent her formative years at Lloyd’s of London working within the previous Lloyd’s Claims Office before the group was transferred into Xchanging Claims Services.
She moved to Pequod in early 2010. She has over 20 years of direct experience in the business and brings an excellent background knowledge of claims and recoveries to her role as an administrator within Pequod.
